Brett Favre Calls Tate Forcier to Congratulate Him on Performance
By Christopher J. Moon, Spartan Weekly Sports Editor and a “Favre Better Writer Than You LOLZ”
Michigan Wolverines quarterback Tate Forcier sat alone on the team bus back to Ann Arbor, still fugly looking and in a somber, sullen mood. He just lost. To Michigan State. Just li
ke his team last year. The trip to East Lansing proved to be an ill-fated one, as the 26-20 overtime loss to the Spartans bolstered theories that early season college football ratings are as fraudulent and empty as the people who use them.
“I practiced sixty hours last week for this?!” he thought.
The trip was not completely worthless, however. Ten minutes after the team’s departure from Spartan Stadium, Forcier received a phone call from fellow overrated quarterback Brett Favre.
“I basically called to congratulate him on his play, “Favre said. “He really played well.”
Favre saw talent in the young Forcier, specifically noting his ability to get really lucky when throwing into coverage on clutch drives and how he “just looks like he’s havin’ fun out there.” Readers will remember Forcier was nearly picked off twice by a mediocre Spartan defensive back on the last drive of regulation before tying the game at 20.
Forcier was picked off in the end zone during Michigan’s only overtime drive. The ball was thrown into traffic directly to a mediocre Michigan State back and bobbled several times before being cradled by another mediocre Spartan defensive back. Despite the loss, Favre says that “lucky gunslinger” mentality will serve Forcier well.
“I saw pieces of me out there on the field,” Favre said. “With some experience, that overtime interception in the end zone will go straight through two defenders’ hands and safely into the grasp of one of his receivers. Just you wait and see.”
So does Forcier need any work? According to Favre, just a few adjustments – including throwing 8-10 passes a game off his back foot and finding an all-pro running back he can ride to the playoffs.
“I know he’s got a long professional career ahead of him,” Favre said. “He’ll be throwing deep routes into double and triple coverage for many, many years to come. Trust me”
