Detroit Lions Win Parade Scheduled for Tuesday

The city of Detroit has announced plans to host a parade commemorating the Lions’ win this past Sunday. The parade will be held on Tuesday at 9:00am EST, beginning at Ford Field and ending at Hart Plaza. Afterwards, a rally will be held onstage at Hart Plaza, where several players and coaches will speak to the adoring crowd. The parade is being held both to celebrate the win and to allow fans a chance to watch the game, which was blacked out to local TV markets.

If you haven’t heard by now, the Lions won their first game in over a year by outlasting the Washington Redskins at home, 19-14. The team avoided continuing their notorious losing streak, which at 19 games stood as the NFL’s second-worst all time. The Lions’ current season record now stands at 1-2.

The Lions dominated the first half, holding the ball on offense for 22 minutes, compared to the Redskins’ 8 minutes of possession. The defense made critical stops in the red zone, including a goal-line stand on 4th down. The Lions shut out the Redskins in the first half, running into the locker room at halftime with a 13-0 lead.

Rookie QB Matthew Stafford, pictured at right at the Lions post-game boat party, had the best game of his young career, completing 21 of 36 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. He also demonstrated his maturity level, completing clutch throws
with accuracy on 3rd downs and late in the 4th quarter.
However, Stafford’s performance proves beyond a doubt that his on-field celebration technique needs work. Off the field, however...
